OMG, the NBR is crazy!

Scroll down or follow the link to my NBR predictions page, now updated with the actual results, and reactions.

Quite the kickoff, this was.

"if I hear one more person call this film "The Blood Diamond" I will scream. I hate when people add random articles to titles."

I know, right? I wish more movie titles would drop the The. It's just... there.

Imagine Birth actually being called The Birth. Or something else like that.

Oh, and it has been a really good year for ensembles, hasn't it? I haven't even seen a lot of the big contenders yet and I'm having trouble keeping the category to only five nominees (for my own awards).

There's The Departed, A Prairie Home Companion, Jindabyne, The Devil Wears Prada, Little Miss Sunshine, Thank You for Smoking and my personal #1 atm... United 93.

Well some titles make sense with a "the". The Departed for example. It changes the meaning is the thing. The Departed becomes a noun with the "the," which is fine. It's more that actual official press releases and things seem to get titles wrong. Often. The least people can do is get the names of the films right.

Yeah, great years for ensembles. The United 93 cast will definitely be in my personal awards, if I do them, as will Little Miss Sunshine and probably The Departed. Prairie and Prada were both kind of uneven I think, despite their pedigree, so I don't think they'll make it this year.

I'd definitely nominate Prada because the fact that it's not such a serious film and it's not filled with the greatest of thespians outside of Meryl (ala The Departed) it just seems to impressive. And of course, not many others are gonna notice the "ensemble" nature of it because to most it's all about Meryl (and the costumes).

Prairie wouldn't make it for me purely because most of them aren't given that much to do other than merely be awesome and to sing a tune or two.

BTW, because Little Children didn't even make the Top 10 of NBR you're downgraded to "only sorta awesome". Sorry, if you're gonna pronounce yourself as being "officially awesome" if it won, you have to take the hit when it's not there at all.

:P

You should check out the Hot Blog, Kris and Dave Poland are having this ridiculous grudge match over who rules the oscar roost or something. It's sorta hilarious but also really stupid.

Yeah, Kris and Dave Poland are ridiculous. It's fun to go to their sites and siphon their insider info, though, all whilst not taking them very seriously.

And yeah, I worry for Little Children. If it keeps up this level of being totally ignored, even Kate and the script might have to pass on this year's oscars.

So I'll willingly take the hit and declare myself "not very awesome at all" for right now. But I am still a little bit awesome because I did get the Painted Veil win and several of my alternates won. So "not very/only mildly awesome."

But it's not like anyone else did any better. Did even Kris "God-Among-Prognosticators" Tapley predict Letters to take the NBR? Not so much. And his prediction didn't make the top ten either.
