Nathaniel's Actors of the Aughts

I am loving this project. I remember when Nate did "Actresses of the Aughts" last fall and it started to consume my life... and this one, surprise, surprise, is now consuming me as well. I'm already ready to start guess as to how the top ten will play out. Some early guesses for the top spots:

Now, three of these men won't make the list... but I bet that the other ten will. But which ones? In what order? I have no idea... but I think Jude will top the list. He's a gift that just keeps on giving, with no endpoint in sight.

Oops, forgot Tony... yeah, he will definitely be right up there... fixed it.

I really don't know which of these men will be left out, though (of the top ten, I mean). Tough to say. They've all helped shape this new decade.

I think you're forgetting one major Top 10 player.

GEORGE CLOONEY

I think the top 10 will include
Christian
Ewan
Gael
George
Jake
Jim
Jude
Johnny
Ian
Peter

I left out Fiennes because he hasn't done as much this decade. Owen and Tony have only one role that Nat was excited about and it wasn't like Johnny who he was REALLY excited about. And Tom... what has he done other than Bedroom and Sunshine?

Yes, but has George had ANY roles that Nat has been excited about? Nat likes George Clooney far more as a "star" and even as a director than he does as an actor (and I have to agree with Nat on that one... except I'm actually less enthused with The Clooney). His star presence this decade definitely merits the top 25, but top 10? He hasn't had any great or even vaguely special performances lately.

Also, Nat LOVVVES Clive Owen, mostly in Closer, but don't forget, Clive also has Gosford and Sin City. And he, like Jake, Ewan, Gael, and Jude, really ascended into major stardom this decade.

Plus, you may not have noticed, but someone posted a comment to the effect of "I bet Tony Leung will be in the top ten" and Nat said "that's a safe bet" (that's what prompted me to put Leung here in the first place).

Why do I we hang on Nat's every passing whim like this? It's freakish... but fun.

Oh, but you're right about Tom Wilkinson... I know Nat loves him a lot, but hasn't had any major/great roles other than those two... well, there was Girl w/a Pearl, I guess... but he and Fiennes seem like the most likely candidates to fall out... and I'm really not sure about Ian... he's anchored two major fantasy/action franchises this decade (no small feat for an old man), but are Gandalf and Magneto enough? Tough to say.

But we all know Nat responds to the 'movie star' nature of certain people! Plus:

Syriana
Good Night, and Good Luck
Intolerable Cruelty
Solaris
Ocean's 11
O Brother Where Art Thou

not to mention a few others that I didn't put down. He won't be #1 due to the lack of a LOVED performance but he'll be high i reckon.

I dunno, I'm not convinced. I think it'll be something like:

14. Clooney
13. McKellen
12. Wilkinson
11. Fiennes
10. Bale
9. Leung
8. Gyllenhaal
7. Owen
6. Depp
5. Sarsgaard
4. Broadbent

...and finally:
3. Ewan
2. Gael
1. Jude

The order could be any which way, though... the only part I'm fairly confident in is #3, #2 #1 being Ewan, Gael, and Jude.
